“Mauldin Gardens Afternoon”

This lovely watercolor of the pergola, which once stood as the centerpiece of Mrs. Mauldin’s gardens, was painted by local artist, Joyce Netzler. It is based on old photographs and memories of Ann Bruce Mauldin Faircloth whose family owned the property from 1921 to 1969.

About the Artist

joyce_netzlerJoyce Netzler has become a well known, award winning artist in the SC upstate area since her move from Cincinnati, Ohio, her former home. Joyce’s paintings are vibrant in transparent watercolor with attention given to clear, clean color. She has participated in work-shops with several professional artists such as Don Dennis, Marilyn Phyllis, Paul Melia and Zoltan Szabo. Her paintings are found in many private and public collections including: Standard Textile and Hensley, Segal, Rentschler in Cincinnati; Mary Ellen Home Care Products in Minneapolis, MN; Foster Saad & Company in Columbia, SC; and Greene Funeral Homes in Rock Hill, SC.

Joyce is a member of the Charlotte Art League, the South Carolina Watermedia Society, the Gaston County Art Guild, the Yorkville Artists Guild and the Guild of Charlotte Artists.



About the Printmaker

Joe Zdenek is the retired Chairman of Modern Languages at Winthrop University.
He has been painting since he retired and continues to enhance his skills through workshops and art lessons. He is known for his beautiful watercolor florals and sun splashed buildings of the Mediterranean. A member of the York County Artists’ Guild, he has provided that organization with leadership and fundraising expertise.

Jack Bolin works in a realistic style in several mediums – egg tempera being his favorite. He also works in oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, casein, and pen and ink as shown in this drawing. Jack started painting in 1969 and is mostly self taught, learning from his father who was also a painter. His subjects range from portraits and landscapes to still life and wild life. His art appears in corporate and private collections in 34 states and over the years he has won approximately 200 awards.
He also does commission work.
